The 1996 GMC Sierra was launched by General Motors Company in three variants: 3500 (1-ton), 2500 (3/4 ton), and 1500 (1/2 ton). The 2500 model came in standard two-wheel drive and optional four-wheel drive.
Wideside and SportSide Variants
It was marketed in two models – the Wideside and SportSide. The models which lacked the flared rear fenders were called Wideside, and the models with flared rear fenders were called Sportside.
1996 GMC Sierra 2500 4×4 had a 117.5-inch wheelbase along with 8-feet bed, whereas long-bed variants had a wheel base of 131.5 inches and 8-feet long bed. Extended-cab models (2500) came with choice of 155.5-inch wheelbase and 8-feet bed, or a 141.5-inch wheelbase and 6.5-feet bed.
The extended-cab had passenger carrying capacity of up to 6 grown-up, with two full-widths bench seats, whereas other extended-cab models got a folding bench. Other than (2500) extended- and extended- cabs, the other models had two buckets or third row bench seat.
1996 GMC Sierra 2500 4×4 Power-Train Specs
The 1996 GMC Sierra 2500 4×4 had a standard 4.3-liter V6 base engine that delivered 160 horsepower, while 5.7L and 5.0 liter gasoline V8s engines, and 6.2-liter diesel engines were available optionally. All these versions had both manual or automatic shift transmission with antilock rear brakes.
